About Casa Azul
Casa Azul is a single-story family house in the Barlovento residential inside Punta Leona, with a private pool in the middle of the floor plan and the Arenas supermarket, the Pops ice cream shop and a restaurant 75 meters from the door. It sleeps eight in a king bedroom and a bunk room, and it suits families with children who want the beach, the pool and the fridge all within a few steps.
The pool is the center of the house: the kitchen, living room, terrace and both bedrooms open onto it, so you watch the water from the sofa or the stove. Bedroom one has a king bed, air conditioning and a ceiling fan; bedroom two has two bunk beds, each with a double below and a single above, and its own air conditioning. Two full bathrooms serve the house. The kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and cooking basics, with a long wooden dining table for six, and the living room has a sectional sofa, a TV and a desk with Wi-Fi measured at 118 Mbps. Outside, a hammock hangs by the pool under a big umbrella, with a basketball hoop on the wall, and there are children's books, toys, dinnerware and beach gear. A washer is in the house, parking is at the front, and check-in is by lockbox between 15:00 and 20:00.
To get around Punta Leona, the house has a Club Car golf cart and a Can-Am Mule for guests to rent. The Mule is a high-performance off-road vehicle, as fun as it is practical, for getting around Punta Leona. Ask us which ones are available for your dates, and the price.
Guests praise communication, which scores a perfect 5.0 across 37 reviews, then the pool, the quiet and safety of the residential, and a kitchen that lets you cook as at home. Families say the kids loved the pool and the beach was close. Several mention scarlet macaws, the lapas, in the trees around the house, and one guest wrote that our team was understanding about traveling with elderly parents.
With small children, start with the pool: it has no gate and sits between the bedrooms and the kitchen, so keep floaties on them and one adult watching. The kitchen side of the house gets hot in the afternoon and has fans rather than air conditioning. The beach is about 15 minutes on foot, further than the listing suggests; Playa Blanca and Playa Limoncito are beyond Playa Mantas. Enter Punta Leona by the main cobblestone road, not the hotel entrance, which charges a fee. The Punta Leona club (pools, jacuzzi, tennis, mini golf, restaurant, bar, playground) is open to house guests for a per-person fee. Raccoons open doors left ajar, quiet hours run from 21:00 to 08:00, and pets are not allowed.
We manage Casa Azul with a local cleaner and answer quickly; cleaning during a longer stay can be arranged. We send the gate and lockbox instructions before you arrive. Message us on WhatsApp with your arrival time and any question about the club, the beaches or the number of guests, which is charged per person on the reservation.

Getting there
Punta Leona is on the central Pacific coast, about one hour by car from San José airport (SJO); guides put it at around 90 minutes with traffic. The road is paved the whole way, and the main access into Punta Leona is a cobblestone street in perfect condition, so no 4x4 is needed. Use that main access, not the hotel entrance, which charges a fee to non-guests; a guest learned this the hard way. Casa Azul is in the Barlovento residential, 75 meters from the Arenas supermarket, which makes it easy to find once you are inside. Airbnb shares the exact address after booking, and the lockbox instructions arrive before check-in. The check-in window is 15:00 to 20:00, so plan to leave San José by mid-afternoon.

“Amazing place, quiet, private and very safe community. Kids had a blast, beach was very close, swimming pool and floor plan was outstanding”
Anna, Texas, United States · March 2026
“The house was comfortable and location was awesome for exploring Punta Leona and Playa Blanca. Having a private pool was also a bonus.”
Louis, Santa Monica, California · January 2026
“The house is well stocked, and beautifully decorated . The location within punta Leona is also great. My only observation which is the pool is set between the room and the kitchen. Which is a beautiful setup , but with young children you have to keep a watchful eye at all times.”
Raquel, San José, Costa Rica · March 2025
“We spent several days at the house; it is super nice and clean, and the kitchen is super well-equipped. We were able to cook comfortably, just like at home. The host responds very quickly and resolves any issues. I am very grateful for the understanding during my stay with seniors. I certainly hope to return.”
Yessenia, San Antonio, Costa Rica · April 2026
“A very nice house. Super adaptable for a family plan. The place is very private and very peaceful. Excellent location. A perfect stay!”
Gloriana, Alajuela, Costa Rica · July 2026
“The place is great, very comfortable and cozy. The hosts are great and very helpful. Just be careful not to go through the hotel entrance, because they charge a fee for using it.”

Private, yes; fenced, no. The pool sits in the middle of the house between the bedrooms and the kitchen with no gate, which is lovely for adults and demands attention with small children. A guest recommends floaties for kids who cannot swim yet.

About 15 minutes on foot, per a guest who timed it. Playa Mantas is the nearest, with Playa Blanca and Playa Limoncito beyond it. The Punta Leona club transport to Playa Blanca is available with a paid bracelet.

Yes, 75 meters away. The Arenas supermarket shares its corner with the Pops ice cream shop and the Hotel Arenas restaurant, which is open to the public. You can shop for the kitchen without moving the car.
