About Casa Yaiwa
Casa Yaiwa is a three-bedroom house two minutes on foot from the center of Santa Elena, the main town of Monteverde, with parking at the front door. It sleeps six and suits families and groups who want to walk to dinner and leave the car parked, and travelers on a one-night stopover who arrive late and leave early.
The house is a renovated single-story townhouse of the kind you see all over rural Monteverde, with wood ceilings and tiled floors. The living room has a gray sectional sofa, a dining table for four and a 48-inch TV set up for streaming with your own accounts (there is no cable). The kitchen has a refrigerator with freezer, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster and rice cooker, and one bedroom has a desk and chair if you need to work. Each of the three bedrooms has a bed for two with reading lamps, room-darkening blinds and a coat rack. The single bathroom has a large marble-tiled shower with plenty of hot water. A washer and dryer sit in the laundry room and are available on request for a 20 dollar fee. Exterior cameras cover the garage and the back terrace, looking outward.
Guests praise the location above everything else: the center of town, restaurants, supermarkets and tour pickups are all a short walk, and the Soda Amistad next door serves a good local plate. They describe the house as clean, the beds as comfortable and the street as quiet even with the wind blowing at night. Several mention feeling safe with the car parked out front, and families of four say it worked well.
The main thing to know is that there is one bathroom for six people, so plan your mornings. The house is simple: guests have asked for more towel hooks and shelf space in the bathroom, and the windows have no screens, so close them at dusk if insects bother you. The laundry costs extra and the washer is a semi-automatic type. A spider or two is part of living at the edge of a cloud forest; we sent someone the next morning when a guest asked.
Because this is the stopover house, the arrival perks matter here more than anywhere else. If the house is clean before 15:00, we let you in from 11:00; one family got in early because the previous guests left early. If it is not ready, you can drop your bags and go for lunch or a tour while the clean finishes; Monteverde has no luggage lockers. We also help you book a night walk in the forest so a short stay still sees animals. The reserves and the hanging bridges are 10 to 15 minutes away by car, and taxis and shuttles pick up in town.

Getting there
Monteverde is about three hours by car from San José (SJO) or Liberia (LIR). Casa Yaiwa is in the town itself, so you drive to Santa Elena and you are there; any car reaches the door and there is parking right in front. Shared shuttles and the public bus also end in Santa Elena, and from the stop the house is a short walk, which makes it the easiest of the Monteverde stays to reach without a car. Airbnb shares the exact address after booking, and our team or the local manager coordinates the key handover with you on WhatsApp. Check-in is not by lockbox here, so send your arrival time the day before, especially if you arrive after dark.

Frequently asked about Casa Yaiwa
Can we check in early?
Yes, when the house is ready. Check-in is 15:00, but if the previous guests have left and the clean is finished we let you in from 11:00. A family in June got in early for exactly that reason. Send your arrival time on WhatsApp the day before.
Can we leave our luggage before check-in?
Yes. Drop your bags at the house while the clean is in progress and walk into town for lunch or a tour; Monteverde has no lockers, so this is how a one-night stay gets a full day. Tell us so the cleaner expects you.
How close is the house to the center of Santa Elena?
About two minutes on foot. Restaurants, supermarkets, banks and the tour offices are all in walking distance, and guests say the street stays quiet at night. The reserves and hanging bridges are 10 to 15 minutes away by car.
Is there parking?
Yes, free, in front of the house. Guests describe it as easy to park and say they felt safe leaving the car there. Exterior cameras on the garage face the street for security.
Is there a washing machine?
Yes, a washer and dryer in the laundry room, available on request for a 20 dollar fee. The washer is a semi-automatic type, so it takes a little more attention than a household machine at home.
How many bathrooms are there?
One, for up to six guests. It has a large marble-tiled shower with plenty of hot water, so the only squeeze is the morning queue. Bathroom storage is limited; bring a toiletry bag that hangs.
Is the house good for one night on the way through Monteverde?
Yes, it is the stopover house in the group. Arrive by 11:00, drop your bags or move in if it is ready, walk to lunch, take a night walk that we help you book, and leave after the Reserve the next morning.
Can you help us book a night tour?
Yes. We help guests book a night walk, which is the best way to see animals on a short Monteverde stay. Pickups happen in town, a two-minute walk from the house. Ask when you book or on WhatsApp the day before.
