About Kapetsowa Container Loft

Kapetsowa is a container loft with a glass wall facing the Monteverde cloud forest, built for people who want to wake up looking at the trees and walk to the Reserve entrance. It sleeps up to four across two queen beds in one open room, and it suits couples, solo travelers and remote workers better than families with small children.

The loft is one long open space. The two queen beds sit side by side against the glass, so you see the valley from the pillow; the linens and extra blankets are the ones guests keep mentioning in reviews. Behind the beds a full kitchen runs along the wall: stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, wine glasses and a concrete island with three stools. The bathroom is at the far end, with a walk-in rain shower, a vessel sink and hot water; the hot water reaches the shower, not the kitchen tap. The deck wraps the glass side of the container with two swivel chairs and a small table, and that is where you will spend most of your time. Portable fans and a portable heater are in the loft, a washer and dryer in the building below are available on request, and four cars fit on the driveway.

Guests praise the view first, in every kind of weather: fog rolling through, clear sunsets, and stars and fireflies once the lights are off. Then come the beds, the shower with its strong water pressure, the quiet, and our team, who answer messages and have helped guests rent a car and pick tours. Wildlife shows up outside the window during the day. The location gets the same praise: the Reserve entrance is a walk away and the restaurants of Santa Elena a short drive.

Before you book, know that Kapetsowa is a steel container on a hillside. In strong wind it makes noise; most guests sleep through it, and light sleepers should bring earplugs. The deck and entrance have gaps wide enough for a small child to slip through, so the loft is not suitable for infants or children. There is no smoke alarm and no carbon monoxide alarm (all appliances are electric), exterior cameras cover the driveway, ramp and parking, and you arm an alarm each time you leave. It rains here, and there is a hose under the loft for muddy shoes. The loft has hosted guests for years, so expect a lived-in container rather than a brand-new one.

We run Kapetsowa with self check-in by lockbox from 15:00. If the loft is clean before that, we let you in from 11:00; if it is not, you can leave your bags while the clean finishes, which matters in Monteverde because the town has no luggage lockers. Ask us on WhatsApp the day before, and ask about a night tour: we help guests book one so a one or two night stay sees more of the forest.

Getting there

Monteverde is about three hours by car from either San José (SJO) or Liberia (LIR) airports, and the loft sits on the road that runs from Santa Elena out to the Cloud Forest Reserve. A standard rental car reaches the loft; there is no rough stretch to the door and four cars fit on the driveway. Guests describe it as easy to find once they have the instructions, but the place does not appear on every map app, so use the directions we send rather than searching the name. Airbnb shares the exact address after you book, and the lockbox code and alarm instructions arrive before check-in. Shared shuttles and private transfers drop you in Santa Elena, from where a taxi takes you to the loft.

  • “We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed it very much! The container is compact, but has everything you need. The beds were also nice, and the shower was wonderful! The area around the container is also well located, and the view is really amazing!! I would definitely recommend this stay if you are in this area.”

  • “The loft is amazing and has a beautiful view. The sunsets are very enjoyable. Carlos was very helpful throughout our trip, not just with the accommodation. He gave us recommendations and helped us rent a car, which made getting around much easier for us. We need more hosts like him.”

Frequently asked about Kapetsowa Container Loft

Can we check in before 15:00?

Often, yes. Standard check-in is 15:00, but when the previous guests have left and the clean is done, we let you in from 11:00. Message us on WhatsApp the day before with your arrival time and we will confirm on the morning itself.

Can we leave our bags before check-in or after check-out?

Yes. If the loft is still being cleaned when you arrive, you can drop your luggage and go for lunch or a walk to the Reserve. Monteverde has no public lockers, so this is how short stays get a full day. Ask on WhatsApp so the cleaner knows to expect you.

How far is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve?

Walking distance. The loft sits on the road to the Reserve entrance, and people walking past on their way there stop to look at it. Santa Elena town is about 6 minutes away by car.

Is the loft noisy when it rains or when the wind blows?

Rain on the roof sounds like white noise and most guests like it. Strong wind is different: the container makes noise on windy nights, and one guest called it a lot. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper and check the season.

Is there hot water and heating?

Yes to hot water in the shower, and guests praise the pressure. The kitchen tap runs cold. There is no central heating; a portable heater is in the loft for cold nights, and portable fans for warm afternoons. Monteverde is cool, so pack a layer.

Is the Wi-Fi good enough for remote work?

Yes. The listing describes fast Wi-Fi for remote work and streaming, and the concrete island doubles as a desk with the forest in front of you. There is no separate office, so if two people need to take calls at once, plan around the one room.

Is Kapetsowa suitable for children?

No. The deck and entrance have gaps wide enough for a small child to fall through, and we list the loft as not suitable for children or infants. The two queen beds sleep up to four adults.

Can you help us book a night tour?

Yes. We help guests book night walks so a one or two night stay sees more wildlife; tell us your dates when you book. The Reserve trails are also walkable from the loft first thing in the morning.
