Ewa Box 1

Ewa Box 1 is one of two container lofts on the same jungle plot near Cahuita, the one without the pool, and it is the lower-priced way to stay here. The other is Ewa Box 2, which has the plunge pool, and the listing Ewa Boxes books both. It has two queen beds, one bathroom and air conditioning for up to four, and it suits couples and small families who spend their days at the beaches ten minutes away and want a cool, quiet, well-designed place to come back to.

The loft is one open container. Two queen beds sit under a backlit wood headboard with a ceiling fan and a split air conditioner above them, and the wall of glass at the end opens onto a deck with jungle on three sides. A TV hangs on the block wall by the door. The kitchenette has a two-burner stove, refrigerator with freezer, microwave, toaster, blender and a drip coffee maker, plus dishes and cooking basics. The bathroom is a walk-in shower tiled in yellow and gray hexagons, with a round backlit mirror, shelves of towels and a hair dryer. Outside, a white table and a wooden bench sit on the deck for meals, and parking is beside the container. The property has a level 2 EV charger and pets are allowed.

The first four reviews are five stars. Guests write that everything is new and clean, that the kitchen area is complete, that the animals wake you in the morning, and that our team answers fast and helps with anything. One guest said she would come back anytime.

The pool is the thing to be clear about: Box 1 does not include it. It belongs to Box 2, whose guests have exclusive use of it. Book Ewa Box 2 if you want the pool, or Ewa Boxes, the listing for both containers, if you want the whole property. The second container is a short distance away and may have other guests; the space between them keeps privacy. A maintenance person is often on the property, and the pool is serviced on Mondays and Fridays. Quiet hours run from 20:00 to 08:00. You will need a car, though not a 4x4, and the last three minutes are flat gravel; bring repellent and sunscreen. Minimum stay is two nights.

Check-in is by keypad from 15:00 until 02:00. Luggage drop before check-in is allowed while the clean is in progress, and we send directions, the gate code and local tips before you arrive; tell us your arrival time on WhatsApp.

From San José the drive to Cahuita crosses the mountains on Route 32 and follows the coast south from Limón. Guides put it at three and a half to four and a half hours, and the Route 32 pass closes in heavy rain, so check before you leave. In our experience the trip can be done without a 4x4: the route is paved and the last three minutes to the property are flat gravel in fair condition, fine for any car. Buses and shared shuttles reach Cahuita, but you need a car at the property; guests say so plainly. Check-in runs until 02:00 for late arrivals.
