About Ewa Boxes

Ewa Boxes is Ewa Box 1 and Ewa Box 2 booked together: a pair of yellow container villas on one jungle plot near Cahuita, on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, so your group has both containers and the plunge pool to itself. The two boxes hold four queen beds and two bathrooms for up to eight people, and the listing suits two couples, a family, or friends who want design, air conditioning and a pool with nobody else on the property.

Each container is one long open room. Two queen beds stand under a lit wood headboard, with air conditioning and a ceiling fan above, and a wall of glass opens the far end to the deck. The kitchenette in each box has an induction stove, refrigerator with freezer, microwave, toaster, blender, and both a drip and a pour-over coffee maker, with a wooden counter and open shelves. The bathroom has a hexagon-tiled walk-in shower, a round mirror and shelves of towels. Outside, a white dining table and a wooden bench sit on each deck under the container's overhang, and the plunge pool lies between the trees a few steps away. The property has a level 2 EV charger, free parking inside the gate, exterior cameras at the gate and parking, and housekeeping at extra cost. Pets are welcome.

Every review so far is five stars. Guests write about the architecture and the finishes, the quiet, the birds from the deck in the morning, a kitchen that has what you need, and communication that is quick and warm. Several say the place is better in person than in the photos and that it feels more spacious than expected. Families and groups of friends both report it worked, and one guest wrote that the pool was the highlight.

This is the jungle. You will hear it at night, and you may meet monkeys, frogs and butterflies on the paths, so bring repellent and sunscreen, and rinse muddy shoes at the tap by the gabion wall near the parking. A car is recommended; a 4x4 is not needed, and the last three minutes are flat gravel. Quiet hours run from 21:00 to 08:00 and the pool takes no glass. A maintenance person is usually on the property and the pool is serviced on Mondays and Fridays for an hour or less. Ask us where to leave garbage at check-out. Rain showers happen year round on this coast.

Check-in is by keypad and runs from 15:00 to 02:00, so a late arrival from San José works. You can drop luggage before check-in while cleaning is in progress. We send the gate instructions and local tips before you arrive; message us on WhatsApp with your arrival time. Cahuita National Park, Playa Negra and the restaurants and cafes of Cahuita are a short drive, and guests put the beaches at about ten minutes by car.

Getting there

From San José the drive to Cahuita crosses the mountains on Route 32 and follows the coast south from Limón. Guides put it at three and a half to four and a half hours by car, and the Route 32 pass closes in heavy rain, so check before you leave. A 4x4 is not needed: the whole route is paved and the last three minutes to the gate are flat gravel in fair condition. Shared shuttles and buses run from San José to Cahuita, but you will want a car once you are here. Check-in runs until 02:00, which covers a late arrival. Airbnb shares the exact address after booking, and we send the gate instructions and keypad code before you arrive.

Frequently asked about Ewa Boxes

How do Ewa Box 1, Ewa Box 2 and Ewa Boxes fit together?

Ewa Box 1 and Ewa Box 2 are two separate container lofts on the same jungle plot near Cahuita, with jungle between them. Each has two queen beds, one bathroom and a kitchenette, and sleeps up to four. The plunge pool belongs to Ewa Box 2: its guests use it, and Ewa Box 1 guests do not. Ewa Boxes is not a third container: it is the listing that books both containers together for up to eight, and then the whole plot and the pool are yours alone.

Can we rent both villas for a group?

Yes, that is what this listing is. Ewa Boxes gives you both containers, the plunge pool and the whole plot for up to eight people in four queen beds, with two bathrooms and two kitchenettes. Nobody else stays on the property during your dates.

Is the pool private?

Yes, when you book Ewa Boxes. The plunge pool is beside Ewa Box 2 and is yours for the stay. It is serviced on Mondays and Fridays for an hour or less, when a staff member is on site. No glass near the water.

Are the container villas hot inside?

No. Each container has air conditioning and a ceiling fan, and the wall of glass opens to the shaded deck. Guests visiting in the Caribbean heat describe the boxes as comfortable; turn the AC off when you go out, as the house rules ask.

Do we need a car in Cahuita?

Yes, for this location. We recommend a car for beaches, restaurants and the national park, all a short drive away; guests put beaches and supermarkets within 10 to 15 minutes. A 4x4 is not needed, and the last three minutes are flat gravel.

Is there a kitchen?

A kitchenette in each container: induction stove, refrigerator with freezer, microwave, toaster, blender, and drip and pour-over coffee makers, with dishes and cooking basics. Guests describe it as well equipped. There is no oven.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes, pets are allowed. Keep in mind the property is unfenced jungle with monkeys and other wildlife around, and quiet hours run from 21:00 to 08:00.

Can we arrive late at night?

Yes. Check-in is by keypad and the window runs from 15:00 to 02:00, so a late drive from San José works. Send us your arrival time on WhatsApp so the gate instructions reach you in time.

Can we drop our bags before check-in?

Yes. Luggage drop is allowed while the clean is in progress; tell us when you expect to arrive. Early entry itself depends on the previous guests' check-out.
